GOP is still desperately trying to get the votes, and we can't give up until they do - this bill would gut Medicaid. Every medical organization has come out against it; they're horrified.

If you've called before, that's great - but call again.

If you have a Dem senator, call to thank them for standing firm.

It really is important. If you're afraid of talking to people, call outside of business hours and leave a voicemail. Call local offices if the DC line is busy/mailbox full.

It matters.

The GOP broke off bipartisan talks with Dems to shore up ACA's insurance markets, and now they're trying - again - to unilaterally repeal ACA and take with it a huge chunk of Medicaid (which will, of course, completely destabilize our entire healthcare system, but that's where we are).

You can find more information by googling Graham-Cassidy, but here's one link.

Apparently, Lindsey Graham - one of the bill's sponsors - got on Breitbart radio (yes, now we're integrating Breitbart into GOP mainstream, fun times ahead) to urge listeners to call in support of the new bill, so it's VERY IMPORTANT that the Senate be flooded with opposition calls.

Here is one script and information resource.

Cut for image )

Doll-finzzzz~! I'm giving the image hosting site Imgur a try at a friend's recommendation, after ranting hardcore at them about Photobucket being a butt. (Dreamwidth, I love you, and I am 100% going to store more images here and love it, especially for accessibility, but you currently don't have the image organization tools that I require. I have well over five hundred pictures of crocheted things alone, and don't care to try and sort through all of them every time I want to get to a Dreamsheep icon, for example.)

Anyway, these are all of the dolphins I've made so far for ICON, the local SFF con, one of whose staff members commissioned me to make a little somethin' for the Con Benefactor bags. They only need seventeen, but I'm like, why stop there? So I'm currently up to twenty-six, and there's still another week-and-a-half before the con for me to make more.

Lots of colors were specifically requested, or I probably (definitely) would've gone with all pale blue/periwinkle/gray/vaguely-real-dolphin-color-ish. (The color of the four light-blue-ish dolphins in the top of the picture is listed as "lavender" on the yarn. I mean, it looks a lot more blue-ish to me, but there's something like a 25-50% chance I'm a carrier for red/green colorblindness, so.) I think I'm kinda glad for that request, because it's actually made using the same pattern over and over again less boring :P I love how naturally the yarn tends to stripe, too.

Watching through the archive of the dual livestreams of two Washington, DC, rallies on the Fox News affiliate: Mother of All Rallies (Trump supporters) and the Juggalos. So amusing.

Vice News has been covering the Gathering of the Juggalos for a few years, and I always read their articles and think it sounds like it must be lots of fun if you're into mud and stickiness, which I'm not particularly. Faygo flinging aside, they're not an especially alarming group. Unlike, say, the Fyre Festival people (hee).

The older dude they've got covering the Juggalos protest is hilarious -- he's clearly so charmed in spite of himself. Right off the bat, he was like, I dunno, I dunno, I can't see any police, where are the police, I guess they're not expecting any problems? There's only the national park patrol. (Camera zooms in on some park patrol officers chatting with each other, and a Juggalo petting the horse.) The longer Old Dude's there ... the desk anchor keeps asking him (repeatedly, in a leading tone) if people are "giving him trouble" when he tries to interview them, and he's like, No! Everyone's being so nice! And then he's like, Uh, there's a lot of 'f-words' being flung about, so if that's offensive, you should, uh, not watch this coverage, uh. The periodic chanting consists of "Fuck that shit!" and "You fucked up!" (re: the FBI), and occasionally "L O V!" It's a fairly healthy crowd, a lot of them are dressed in weird stuff or band merch. The steady, small crowd in front of the stage is actually listening to the speakers and rap acts, and busts into a minor mosh pit once in a while.

It's pretty clear that he's enjoying his assignment.

The MOAR is visibly poorly attended, the speakers (what we hear of them) are just as amateurish as those at the Juggalo rally, but they're boring, and the small crowd in front of the stage gets smaller and smaller every time the coverage drops back in -- by four hours in, it's nothing but a handful of people. The rest are wandering around looking sleepy or zoned out in lawnchairs. The reporter at the MOAR rally is trying SO HARD to make it sound awesome and is just ... failing. Oh, now she's walking over to a sign -- propped up by an empty table with no people anywhere near it -- and saying, "See? This is what this rally is about! Patriotism. Not racism or any of that." (Earlier, the camera had settled on -- then quickly cut away from -- the two women holding up a bedsheet banner with "BUILD THAT WALL" written all over it in marker.) She points to a trailer with a big sign on it. And at the handful of people in front of the stage. She's trying so hard to push this rally and make it sound cool -- which is why I don't feel sorry for her.

It's pretty clear she's not enjoying her assignment. She should have asked to cover the Juggalos.

MOAR Dude on stage: "It seems the left will never be satisfied until they move America foward in a direction that leads to distruction. Right off a liberal cliff that leads to failure and hell."

Juggalo Dude on stage yanks up his shirt: "Those are Juggalo titties!"

ETA2: Oh ho. Anti-fa Black Block have crashed the Juggalo's protest and are camping out on the lawn in a group. Now the D.C. police have shown up, too. Hmm. Everyone is worried, old dude says. But Old Dude also is ... actually chuckling about people smoking joints: "People are definitely smoking some dope (heh heh)." And again: "People are being so nice to us." <-- I wonder if people have been sharing with him. He sounds so upset that the Black Block is crashing his awesome rally. ^___^

ETA3: Sign in crowd: "Fandom is not a felony."

ETA4: ICP rant is decidedly left wing here. LOL.

ETA5: Violent J's fiery, enlightened political speech: "Taking away somebody's opinion is no different than sewing their butthole shut. Do you want to sew a man's butthole shut?* I mean, I might want to watch what happens. In fast forward. But I don't wanna do the actual sewing. The point is, fuck discrimination! Right?" LOLOLOL.
(*Crowd: No! One woman, loudly: Yes!)

ETA6: Shaggy-2-Dope's version: "There's many Americans who don't fucking wanna see any more played-out, 1960-fuckin-4 old-guard, old-money, old wriggly red-necked, whiskey-throat, bigot, bitch-boy, richie-dick-head, douchery discrimination and this played-out bullshit in our country anymore. The good people, the hard-working people, the heart-having, free-thinking, moral-minded people are demanding better treatment for each other, on each other, in this day and age. In this day and age, we're talking about the American government still doing this bullshit. That's why you're here, right now. You're in the Crowd to be Proud. You're the ones demanding no discrimination. Why the fuck would anybody wanna be on the other side in the argument? Why?"

Holy shit. S2D's ten-times more articulate than Trump. And it's most definitely a political rally now. Even if we set aside the earlier exhortations by VJ to masturbate in the maple trees for FBI cameras.

ETA7: She's interviewing a dude who had a tee-shirt made that shows White Jesus petting a Trump photo, it says, "I picked you for President." Uh huh. She's also managed to somehow find a "Latina for Trump" woman and a "Jews for Trump" teaparty guy, who also seems to be ... deeply weird. She's admitting (a bit reluctantly) that the crowd has gotten ... less.

ETA8: The Juggalo March is more of a Juggalo Leisurely Stroll and Chat. The cop on the motorbike has to stop because it's so slow he can't roll enough to stay upright. Hee. He's wound up far back of the Black Block, who brought a very professional looking "Whoop Whoop" banner with them -- they're easy to spot, as they're the only ones with bandanas over their faces.

ETA9: Back to (exceedingly placid and sparse) MOAR, where she's insisting that the crowd got "quite rowdy" for a singer who sang two numbers, "Build That Wall" and "MAGA." As the camera zooms in tightly on probably the only Asian guy in attendance -- and lingers there for some reason -- she insists (again), "That's what this is really about today. Celebrating being patriotic. Celebrating the American flag. Celebrating being American really." Then she goes on about how everyone's here to support the president, to support what he's trying to do! I'm not sure why she clearly doesn't grasp how one does not necessarily equate with the other. She's also talking about how when protestors showed up, they weren't allowed past the fences -- in other words, some Democrats did come to their rally, but they didn't let them in.* Hee.

What weird coverage.

(*An hour or so earlier they'd found this woman to babble on camera about how Democrats obviously weren't interested in patriotism and supporting America or they'd be there, too. Because it's a rally about supporting America! ... Where every person is decked out in Trump gear. Where the speaker on the stage behind her is ranting about how Democrats are godless, evil incarnate.)

OH LOOOOL. Over at MOAR they're playing "Play That Funky Music" over the loudspeaker. And each time the lyric "Play that funky music, white boy" comes up, the network's messing with the sound so you can't hear it. LOOOOL.

ETA10: Back to the Juggalo March -- which has disappeared. Poor dude sounds so disappointed. They walked down the reflecting pool and went ... somewhere. He doesn't know where. But he checked the website, and it says they're supposed to have a concert tonight, but they seem to be taking down the stage! (Camera swivels to the stage -- where they're obviously revamping it from rally to concert modes.)  He sounds rather sad. Now they're discussing how the antifa people are "known to be violent" ... but didn't do anything. He sounds disappointed. POOR PAUL. She's really insistent, she wants to know: WHAT DID THE ANTIFA PEOPLE DO??? He says, Uh, I think they just walked along with the crowd? But everyone's gone...

"We did see a couple of undercover officers." <-- LOLOL. They must have been pretty shit at undercover then.

Trick or Treat! I'm breaking up my requests a little differently for this exchange. My DNWs and desires are dependent on the original canon, and easier to talk about one-on-one, as it were.

Sleep No More

Bargarran, Fulton, Lady Macduff, Porter, Boy Witch

Because of the unique nature of this show, some of my requests do fall into spoiler territory. I'll be blacking them out for you to read at your discretion. Go as dark as you want with any of these-- the show certainly allows for it. My only hard do not want for this canon is rape/noncon.

Tricks: What does the haunting enacted by the audience look like to these characters? Are their one-on-ones a moment of clarity or madness? What do the witches get out of our rapt attention?

Fulton, Lady Macduff, and Porter all give us some form of token. Bargarran goes a step further: poisoning us, or perhaps delivering an antidote. I know it's a little unorthodox but I'd love a story or picture of how that influence continues outside of the hotel. Are we carrying pieces of these looping souls with us when we leave?

Or if you prefer a little less meta, explore some relationships or flesh out the history of the hotel. All of these characters have interlocking stories that fascinate me.

My favorite take on Bargarran is a man who seems almost in love with Lady Macduff, even as he's poised to do her great harm. I also love his less than subtle war with Fulton.

Bargarran, Fulton and Porter are (or were) all mortal men working to break a cycle. All of them seem somewhat aware of being caught in an endless loop. Even in the canon of the show Bargarran and Fulton fail to enact change, devolving into a spectacular bout of violence directed at each other. Porter seems sabotaged by self-loathing. I'd love to see that explored and taken a step further-- some non-canonical moment of complete failure for any of these characters.

I'd also love to see or hear more about how the hotel's residents were caught in this snare in the first place. Porter and Boy Witch have a story that seems uniquely suited to this, but all of the characters are in the same boat (as it were.) Lady Macduff and Porter as fellow addicts could be interesting too.

Treats: A lighter take on any of the above would be considered a treat in my eyes.

Or if you are interested in writing or drawing something (comparatively!) romantic for any relationship, please do.

I also can't help but think that if these characters were able to share their one-on-one moments with each other something good might come of it. Imagine Lady Macduff and Fulton trading blessings, or bestowing a charm on the Porter. Imagine if Porter was able to give his ring to Lady Macduff, or (of course) to Boy Witch. That's only a few examples, and some other combinations could turn out very badly. I'm open to that as well.

The Parasol Protectorate
and/or Supernatural Society

Alexia Tarabotti(PP), Conall Maccon(PP), Genevieve Lefoux(PP), Imogene Hale(SS)

Note that I am lumping these characters together because what I have to say about the series as a whole is too similar to repeat. I fully understand that you may not have read Supernatural Society/Romancing the Inventor, or you may only be interested in Imogene and not Genevieve!

For these series I am only looking for a Treat, but I should stress that I love the supernatural hi-jinx in canon and am not expecting you to avoid that! But I don't want anything darker than the source material. My DNWs are Rape/Noncon, Character Death, Gore/Vore, and Angst.

Treats: I love Alexia and her take-charge attitude. Alexia vs. fashion, vs. food, vs. politics, vs. her husband, vs. octomatons (perhaps Genevieve is trying to restore their reputation in the wake of disaster?) or any combination thereof would make me very happy.

Alexia/Conall is a diehard ship of mine. I love his not-so-smooth romancing just as much as his frequent exasperation. Conall dealing with pack business or BURR business would also be delightful. But most of all I want to know what the man is like in the company of hedgehogs.

And Genevieve! Anything from tales of her youth to her pre-Imogene struggles with the vampires would be appreciated. A little non-canonical Alexia/Genevieve (or Alexia/Genevieve/Imogene for that matter) could be very nice, though I'd prefer that if Conall is mentioned at all he be aware of the situation.

Imogene I love for herself. I'm sure she'll have many further adventures-- new poets discovered, coming out to her village in some way or another, putting vampires in their place, or perhaps another trip to London and time spent with the pack. (He isn't nominated, but I her relationship with Channing makes me grin too.)

And of course I do love her with Genevieve and would happy accept any fluff or further adventures. They both deserve to be happy.

The Bedlam Stacks

Raphael, Merrick Tremayne

This is a fairly new book. Continue with caution if you haven't read the source material.

Tricks: There is such serious potential for body horror in this book if you want to align yourself with Raphael's POV. Canon describes his transition periods as a deep sleep, and says he has no idea how much time has passed. But clearly that isn't ultimately the case. What does being a fully fledged markayuq feel like? Were there other changes to his body or mind that Raphael was glossing over, and did he go through them while Merrick was around, or when he was younger, or while he's waiting in the floating city? How would all of this effect his perception of a post-canon meeting?

And of course the markayuq are terrifying as an outside force too. What else has Raphael seen happen in the forest? What might Merrick uncover post-canon?

Art-wise: I'd love to see your take on the storybook from Merrick's childhood, or the sketch of Raphael in the woods. Whatever Merrick may think I have a feeling that both were quite creepy.

Treats: Post-canon continuations would be lovely. Give me clever work-arounds to that long list of human/markayuq rules of engagement.

Pulley's writing is fabulous but she also keeps her characters deliberately opaque. Filling in the gaps will always be appreciated, or retelling a bit of the story from Raphael's point of view. At what moment did Merrick become a person to him, and not just Harry's grandson?

Or show me Raphael and Merrick returning to Bedlam after all, or going further afield to Merrick's estate. What would Saint Thomas think about all this, I wonder?

Or if you prefer to draw, I'd just love to see a visual interpretation of the characters, or any of the above ideas condensed into an image.

For this series my DNWs are: Rape/Noncon and Character Death (being differently living is obviously fine, but please don't set your story at the end of Merrick's life.)

I've finally found it: The perfect pun to use for romantic orientations in my Potions collection!

Roman-tonic :D

I gave serious thought to just adding "oil" to the end of romantic orientations, but it just didn't sit right with me. I'm definitely glad I gave myself the time to find something else.

Now I just gotta find something good and punny for gender identities. Gender Fluid and Genderflux Capacitor only cover two identities, and there's a lot more out there to think about.

Battle of the Planets: Mark, Jason
